Welcome back to the Head Of The Charles Regatta! At the 2012 HOCR, you’ll find crews from 28 nations, 37 states, 383 cities, and 705 clubs; a new record. With the bow draw recently posted and entries finalized for this year’s Regatta, we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that the festivities extend beyond the traffic and travel lanes. You’ll also find sponsor samples, vendor booths, signage that’s sharper than a 24 megapixel DSLR, hospitality tents and more from our generous sponsors! It’s anyone’s guess what Brooks Brothers will reveal for the 2012 HOCR Premium. But with one look in the Gentle Giant vault, we’re pretty sure volunteers will be happy. There is simply no other fall race in America where the excitement tastes like Island Creek Oysters and the practice traffic rivals the MBTA.
In addition to our faithful returning sponsors, EMC and Brooks Brothers, this year BNY Mellon Investment Management joins them as a premier sponsor and official investment services sponsor of the HOCR. As the official sponsor of both the Men’s and Women’s Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race, BNY Mellon is no stranger to the sport of rowing. Sperry Top-Sider has increased their presence for the 2012 HOCR after a favorable experience with the muddy 2011 venue. You’ll find their “beach cottage” themed sales area just upstream of the Eliot Bridge and within shucking distance of the Island Creek Oyster Bar.
Across from Reunion Village and under 500 meters from Harvard Square at the Weld exhibition are, EMC will set-up photo kiosks for competitors and spectators to capture their 2012 experience in print. Brooks Brothers, the HOCR Official Apparel sponsor, and luggage icon, Samsonite, will both offer retail shops here and near the Rowing and Fitness Expo selling co-branded clothing and bags, respectively. MINI Cooper will be a new face at the 2012 HOCR. A Brooks Brothers clad River Control Volunteer will be at the helm of a MINI Cooper safety launch patrolling in front of the Weld Boathouse area.
The Head Of The Charles is as much of a reunion for competitors as it is for rowing vendors. Under the Rowing and Fitness Expo’s big top tent (or just adjacent to it), you’ll find the many rowing equipment manufacturers, apparel brands and non-profits that support the rowing community. These include Concept2, Hudson Boat Works, Pocock Racing Shells, Fluidesign Composites, WinTech Racing, JL Racing, Boathouse Sports, Connect-A-Dock, Nielsen-Kellerman, the Perfect Snaque, and many, many more.
Gear up, chow down, and get ready for a simply amazing 2012 event.
